Henry Colbeck, the UK’s oldest independent supplier of frying oils and fats to the fish and chip market, has asked Edinburgh-based PODFather to deploy a bespoke logistics planning and live customer delivery tracking solution to assist with its expanding Used Cooking Oil (UCO) collection service across the country.  Waste oil is collected by Henry Colbeck’s truck fleet and transported to its own recently-opened waste oil recycling plant in Team Valley, Gateshead where it is processed according to the most stringent compliance and environmental standards and turned into various types of bio-energy.

UCO uplifts are planned and scheduled on a fortnightly or monthly basis from Fish and Chip Shops and Restaurants across the UK where drivers collect oil in Fatboxx®, Henry Colbeck’s own patented 60 or 120 litre specially designed UCO containers supplied to its customers across the country.

For Henry Colbeck, migrating to electronic Proof of Delivery (ePOD) using PODFather removes the requirement for traditional paper-based waste transfer documentation and is transformative for the company, providing the back office administrative support team with greater control and transparency over their fleet operations for both their ad-hoc and regular UCO collection schedules.

PODFather’s web-based platform allows both waste oil collection depots in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire and Gateshead, Tyne & Wear to have access to all their waste transfer notes, fleet movements and discrepancies, as Colin McCreadie, Managing Director of PODFather explains;

PODFather has created a highly efficient, automated proof-of-delivery process for us.

“PODFather enables Henry Colbeck’s driver fleet to complete their daily vehicle checks from a regular hand-held device on either iOS or Android platforms. Every driver has full visibility of his daily schedule of collections and this means we can trigger notifications for booking in and completing jobs to improve every aspect of customer collection and delivery.

“With such a geographically disparate customer base, PODFather is the perfect solution for Henry Colbeck and integrates well with its new internal IT system. Customers are sent email reminders the day before the scheduled UCO collection and with PODFather’s recurring jobs module, this maintains a consistent cycle of collections.

This gives the customer a tailored schedule of collection dates over the next six months. Sitting at the heart of this operation is PODFather, making the collection schedule easier to operate and fulfilling requirements for customer, driver and back end office support – even flagging up any collection or delivery issues the driver may have, to the back-end admin team.”

Ross Murdoch, Waste Oil General Manager for Henry Colbeck commented; “PODFather has created a highly efficient, automated proof-of-delivery process for us. Not only will we make significant savings in paper documentation costs, but also builds a foundation for automating other aspects of our business which can further enhance productivity.”

Founded in 1893, Henry Colbeck is the oldest independent supplier to the fish & chip market in the UK and it remains a family owned and family managed business.
