Alun Griffiths, one of the leading civil engineering and rail contractors, working throughout Wales, the Midlands, and the south-west of England, is working with Podfather to innovate load allocation and movement across its waste transfer, recycling, and product delivery operations.

With a fleet of 100+ vehicles, the Alun Griffiths team was looking for a better way to manage the planning process, having previously relied on paper tickets throughout its 40-year history.

Having looked at Podfather’s Earthworks offering, designed to meet the specific needs of this sector, the Alun Griffiths’ team saw the benefits of the system as a ‘no brainer.’

With deployment well underway, the Alun Griffiths’ team is already reaping the benefits of having real-time fleet visibility, including immediate notification of any issues or delays and a complete online record of all work planned, and completed across this business division.

“Before Podfather we used spreadsheets and paper tickets to plan and manage our waste transfers, and product deliveries,” comments David Dando, Transport Manager at Alun Griffiths. “Now we have Podfather, we can allocate loads and see where they are, at any given time, meaning that if there is a hold-up, we can react immediately. This has had a positive impact on how we operate, and we’re really pleased with how the system is working for us, here at Alun Griffiths.”

Podfather’s Earthworks system has been designed to meet the needs of the construction and civil engineering industry. The system features a range of functionality, including load allocation, vehicle checks, driver tracking, reporting, invoicing, and electronic proof of delivery, and allows users to move paper-based processes to an online environment.

The cloud-based back-office system and easy-to-use driver app helps users to eradicate paper processes and gives real-time visibility of what is going on where, and full-time accountability for all product deliveries and waste transfers, for regulatory compliance purposes.

Built with usability in mind, the Podfather system is designed to be as easy as possible to implement and intuitive to use.

The Alun Griffiths’ team is now using Podfather to plan, allocate, monitor, and report on product deliveries and waste transfers currently managed by its own in-house fleet.

Ultimately Podfather will be rolled out across all subcontractors, with all drivers being asked to download and use the Podfather app, which will give the transport team the ability to allocate work, monitor performance and gather a full picture of what is going on with all loads.

“A system like Podfather has huge benefits for a civil engineering company such as us as it introduces the element of real-time visibility that is lacking when you run an operation using spreadsheets and paper tickets,” comments Adrian Davies, Plant and Transport Director at Alun Griffiths. “Regulatory compliance is at the forefront of all our minds and Podfather gives us the ability to keep an online record of all activities. Podfather gives us peace of mind and helps protect the integrity of our business.”

“Podfather’s Earthworks product can eradicate paper tickets, provide real-time visibility, and aid regulatory compliance for companies operating in the construction sector,” comments Colin McCreadie, Managing Director at Podfather. “Working with industry leaders, such as Alun Griffiths, we are able to prove just how effective our solution is in eradicating paper tickets from an operation.”
