England-based food waste recycling company, Andigestion, have rolled out Podfather’s ePOD and route planning software and saved thousands of pounds in costs and several hours each week in office work.

Andigestion was established in 2004 when its parent company Summerleaze took over a biogas plant in Devon, and soon after converting it to become the first food waste only biogas plant in the UK. Today they operate two plants – Holsworthy and Bishops Cleeve – and work with local authorities, waste contractors, farmers and local food producers to develop a cost effective and efficient method of food waste processing.

With 43 workers dealing with food waste collected from 1 million people, Andigestion needs a system that can easily keep track of everything that gets processed every day.

Before choosing Podfather, Andigestion used another system that proved to be less than satisfying. Luke Crisford, Andigestion’s Sales & Logistics Manager, explains: “The customer service and support was sub-standard, and it was very expensive and time consuming as well. It just wasn’t working, and we had to find a better solution.”

So, they went looking elsewhere and got in touch with Podfather. After the initial web demo, Luke Crisford was sure they had found the right fit. So PODFather went to work on implementing a system complete with route planning & optimisation, ETAs and live tracking, electronic job sheets and other features designed and customised to fit Andigestion’s needs perfectly.

While Luke was concerned that he would have to endure the same complications and poor service he had experienced with the previous system, his mind was quickly put to rest when the process went smoothly and the Podfather team dealt with any issues immediately while keeping Andigestion in the loop at all times.

Colin McCreadie, Managing Director at Podfather, comments: “At Podfather we value great customer service and always strive to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations. It is not just about the product, but the whole process and the people involved in it. Everyone needs to be kept informed and treated with respect for something like this to succeed.”

Now that the Podfather system is in place, the results have been positive, throughout the company. Luke Crisford informs: “The people I’ve spoken to are pleased. Especially waste brokers because they’re able to answer enquiries from customers instantly now thanks to the Customer Portal. Drivers are happy because it’s easier and quicker, which allows them to do more jobs in a day, and thanks to things like route optimisation and live reports, they can stay one step ahead at all times.”

He continues: “My favourite part is how little I need to use the system myself. I used to spend hours every day allocating jobs, organising routes, and so on, and now I only have to enter all the information once and then the system does everything for me. That frees up my time to focus on other tasks.”

Long-term, he expects Andigestion to expand and compete more efficiently by using Podfather. “As the waste collection business grows Podfather will really help us deliver our services efficiently with the high level of service our customers have grown to expect ” he adds.
