Challenge
Prior to the software implementation, South Lincs Foodservice managed its delivery distribution using legacy frameworks that placed heavy dependencies on manual tracking. Operating without real-time tracking made it difficult for back-office teams to maintain visibility over the fleet as the day's schedules unfolded.
- Logistics processes relied on paper tickets and manual documentation throughout the order and delivery cycle.
- Drivers lacked direct, digital access to specific navigation details and custom delivery instructions via a single mobile application.
- Back-office support teams experienced administrative burdens due to the time required to log proof of delivery information manually.
Solutions
South Lincs Foodservice deployed Podfather's fleet logistics software to plan, manage, and optimise its daily vehicle routes and schedules. The cloud-based back-office framework replaces traditional scheduling processes with automated route building, taking into account customer locations and specific drop parameters.
Drivers utilize mobile devices running the native Podfather app to access optimized route schedules, sequential navigation paths, and individual delivery details. The app is also used to capture electronic proof of delivery (ePOD) information directly on-site, logging delivery data digitally without requiring hard-copy tickets.
Results
The implementation has successfully streamlined the company's logistics processes, introducing full real-time visibility across its entire distribution operation. Transitioning to a digital workflow has reduced overall administration hours, cut operational costs, and allowed the business to eliminate a substantial amount of paper from the delivery process.
By using the Podfather ePOD application, drivers easily record exact delivery locations, times, photographs, and customer signatures. This real-time metrics capture unburdens the back office, speeds up internal invoicing loops, and provides customer service teams with immediate, digital access to transactional data to quickly resolve queries.
By letting Podfather do most of the day-to-day, labour intensive, repetitive tasks we are freeing up our most valuable resources – our staff. Rather than taking calls from customers asking where a delivery was or when it was due, our telesales staff can concentrate on giving customers the best possible experience, our transport team can ensure that each and every order and item is transported with the utmost care and attention and our drivers can concentrate on driving and interacting with customers on-site.
