Overview

Noxdown, established in 2015 and now part of the Portland Group, is a UK manufacturer and distributor of VDA-approved diesel exhaust fluids, including AdBlue, AUS40, and bespoke urea solutions. Operating from its production facility in Yorkshire, the company manufactures and distributes products across the UK using its fleet of tankers, curtain-sided lorries, and vans. Products are supplied in bulk, IBC containers, barrels, and small packs to end users across power stations, haulage companies, local authority fleets, agriculture, and marine operations.

The company manages the delivery of 300,000 litres of AdBlue each week. Its urea-based fluids play a critical role in tackling transport, industrial, and marine emissions by reducing Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and Sulphur Oxides (SOx).

Challenge

To produce urea solutions under the VDA AdBlue brand, Noxdown must comply with strict quality management auditing and certification requirements specifically around distribution and supply. Prior to implementing Podfather, managing these logistics and compliance requirements was highly inefficient:

  • Relied on an unwieldy and complex legacy system built around barcodes to track product locations, shelf life, and batch codes for external auditing.
  • Managed route planning using a patchwork of spreadsheets and online mapping tools.
  • Required 2 ½ to 3 people to handle the delivery planning and routing workload for a small internal fleet.

Solution

Noxdown selected Podfather for its straightforward implementation, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness compared to alternative systems that required complex pricing models based on billing numbers and turnover. Centralizing all order data into Podfather gave Noxdown total visibility and traceability of its products, customers, and orders. Algorithms schedule complex routes based on due dates, driver availability, and product dimensions and weights.

Drivers complete digital vehicle checks via the Podfather app at the start of each shift to maintain fleet compliance and spot early maintenance needs. During delivery runs, back-office staff monitor driver progress in real time to share updates with management and clients. On-site drivers capture electronic Proof of Delivery (ePOD) evidence—including date, time, location-stamped photos, and signatures—which is shared instantly across the business and with clients.

Results

Since implementing Podfather, Noxdown has achieved a 100% On Time in Full (OTIF) delivery milestone without missing a single delivery. Administrative resources required for delivery planning were reduced from a multi-person task down to one person comfortably managing all orders and routing independently.

The paperless workflow supported Noxdown’s environmental goals while receiving positive feedback from clients, including traditional customers accustomed to paper PODs. Driver adoption was immediate, enabling new drivers to onboard and navigate the system seamlessly.

Before Podfather, delivery planning was a 2 ½ to 3-person job. Now with Podfather, I comfortably manage the orders and routing on my own and am pleased to report that we haven’t missed a single delivery since we started using Podfather. The feedback from customers has also been very positive, even from some of the more traditional customer sectors we serve who were old-school fans of paper PODs.
