Podfather, the delivery software specialist, has released a new version of its popular Driver App, known as Podfather ePOD Gen2. Designed to extend the flexibility and usability of its logistics solution, which includes planning, route optimisation and proof of delivery (POD) functionality, the next generation app includes the ability to view jobs on an interactive map. Drivers can also reorder pre-allocated routes, to reduce mileage or run duration, or react to changing circumstances or evolving conditions, and a new barcode scanner feature allows for the better item tracking.

Currently on early release, the new Podfather App will be officially launched at the Road Transport Expo which takes place on the 24-26 June 2025 at NAEC Stoneleigh. Podfather, on Stand G14, will also be showcasing Podswap, its new Haulier Management System, and configurable job management templates.

“Empowering drivers to take control of the final mile delivery experience is crucial to the success of many operations,” commented Colin McCreadie, Managing Director at Podfather. “Based on feedback from existing and prospective users, we have introduced a number of features to improve the handheld experience and allow drivers to utilise their own experience and knowledge, underpinned by our optimisation and route planning solutions.”

The new Driver Maps feature allows drivers to view jobs, and their spatial relationship to each other, on an easy to use, interactive map. This gives a holistic view of a run or schedule, including number of jobs, run distance, duration, and end time, which is more intuitive than a simple list. Driver Optimisation and Reordering tools allow the user to amend pre-allocated schedules, optimising routes for mileage and duration. The driver can also ‘tweak’ routes to change the order of jobs based on changing customer requirements or unexpected issues such as road closures or delays. Any changes made by the driver using the app are instantly shared with the back-office system and notified to the customer if required.

Podfather has also introduced a revamped barcode scanning tool which allows drivers to use their mobile device to log items at point of delivery or collection.   The scanner, once activated, uses device cameras to record codes, which are then linked to consignment details.  This gives drivers the ability to quickly and accurately record items and will be available to all Podfather ePOD Gen2 app users.
