PODFather Earthworks “Highly Commended” at the Construction News Awards 2013

PODFather Earthworks has been Highly Commended by the judges of the Construction News awards, held on 11th July 2013, in the Digital Built Britain category.

The PODFather eTicketing system for earthworks automates the production and management of waste conveyance notes and associated paperwork. The solution was deployed by BAM Nuttal for use on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

BAM Nuttall, winners on the night in the category for Project of the year (over £50m), were awarded contracts in four areas of the Olympic Park for infrastructure works and deployed the PODFather Earthworks system to help manage material movements and improve productivity on site.

Highly Commended: The PODFather eTicketing for Earthworks – Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

The PODFather, a proof-of-delivery system for earthworks, took a concept from another industry and applied it to a construction process, immediately bringing multiple benefits. The eTicketing system for earthworks automates the production and managing of waste conveyance notes and associated paperwork. The judges were impressed with the potential this initiative has to be quickly rolled out to other construction management processes.

The Judges commented, “The PODFather is an effective solution that delivers improved productivity and reduction of waste.”

1.5 million tonnes of soil has been excavated and remediated onsite, along with over 300,000 tonnes of material reused across the 500 acre site. PODFather is helping ensure a target of 90% of all demolition waste is reused or recycled on site.

Commenting in a recent article about the usage of PODFather at the Olympic Park Infrastructure Works, Doug Mills, Project Manager at BAM Nuttall says, “It’s all about lean thinking and lean construction. If we are having material delivered or if we are excavating material and moving it to another area of site, we can trace where it has gone. The system works in real time so we can track material movements around site from any computer.”

Alastair Broom, Director of PODFather commented: “PODFather is delighted to have been recognised at this high profile construction event, and would like to congratulate BAM Nuttall on winning the award for Project of the Year for the Olympic Park Infrastructure Work.”
